More than 200 so-called "spy cameras" installed in largely Muslim areas of Birmingham are being dismantled. The cameras in Washwood Heath and Sparkbrook, some of which were hidden, were paid for with £3m of government funds earmarked for tackling terrorism. Surveillance cameras set up in two predominantly Muslim neighbourhoods in Birmingham will start to be removed today. The 218 cameras, some of which were hidden, sparked anger from civil liberties campaigners and residents in Sparkbrook and Washwood Heath, where they were mainly installed.
